Faith, Intution or Science

We sometimes do not have any explanantion for things that happen. Why was she failing in exams even though he was confident about it earlier? Probably she choked. Why? Why was he perenially unsuccesful in running a business properly even after being so highly educated? Maybe he wasn't made for business. Why? Why were there so many deep misuderstandings within the family? They were not so a few years back. What happened then? We know how far the nearest star is but we don't know how much more should we exert for achieving success.
These are just some of the questions that one fails to answer with one's normal knowledge and observation. Should we believe that answers to our such queries exist? Should we agree with Einstein and Shakespeare that god does not play dice, considering that we believe god exists? Do the positions of all the various stars and planets influence our daily lives? How we talk. How we eat. How much we succeed. Is astrology so much reliable that we can trust it like mathematics, a science that has never failed and only turned up with results that sometimes surprise even the most awakened minds? Perhaps Astrology is also one such science and just like mathematics it leads us to conclusions that sometimes belie our powers of observation.
So, for the time being it seems like we need to believe astrology for our own good, till someone does not come up with mathematical and logical explanations for all those mysteries.

Who? Sunil Grover

Voice of:
Hasi ke Phuvare's

Sudarshan aka Sud

Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM presents Hasi Ke Phuvare with Sudarshan

Please call me Sud

Okay…Sud

C'mon baby, chill!

If
you are an avid radio listener, chances are you have heard Sudarshan aka
Sud on Radio Mirchi reading out jokes from his book Hasi Ke Phuvare. Sud's
(who fuels many chats in college canteens) candid remarks leaves listeners
in splits, at times amused and sometimes even irritated. And the man behind
that character is voiceover artist Sunil Grover who came to Mumbai almost
eight years ago. "My story is the same as everyone else's," he
shrugs.

Sunil's first year in Mumbai was spent dabbling in theatre and other small
time assignments. "Then, I got into voiceover. Work started coming
in bits and pieces and there was no looking back," says Sunil.

Speaking of Sud, Sunil feels it's the "simplicity and naivety"
of the character that makes him click with the listeners. "It's a
character who thinks he knows but in reality, he doesn't. That's what makes
him adorable. In fact, when I am Sud, I consciously try not to be funny
or witty and it works. People laugh at the most mundane things he says,"
explains Sunil.

Interestingly, he claims to derive this wannabe yet nave facet from his
own life, particularly his journey from his home town Mandibadwali to Mumbai.
"When I shifted to Chandigarh, I was nothing but a Sud amidst the
campus crowd. After getting accustomed there, I again shifted, this time
to Mumbai and yet again, I was a Sud in the urban atmosphere," he
recounts. Today, Sud's fan following leaves Sunil surprised. Messages like
'Sud, you are so cute' and 'Sud, I want to marry you' are quite common.
"Strangely, in spite of the weird jokes he reads out and the comments
that follow, girls seem to like him more than guys," laughs Sunil.

However, as Sud enjoys his moments of fame on air, he also keeps Sunil
under anonymity. But that's also what adds to the fun. As Sunil puts it,
"I often come across people discussing Sud. Many-a-times, I just stand
there and listen to what they say. In public, nobody knows I am Sud. But
that doesn't stop me from bragging, right? I can always go up to anyone
and say 'Hey! I am Sud!'"

Sarkar Raj

The Big Release finally released - Sarkar Raj the sequel is here to stay.
The movie starts of where it left - Abhiskek (Shankar) taking up major portion of the family business of er...social service from his father Amitabh (Subhash aka Sarkar).
The issue is that of clearing up villages to build up a very large power plant to satisfy Maharashtra's power needs.
Shankar thinks this is an opportunity to get the state on the fast track to progress.
His campaigning in the cities is opposed by a young prospective leader Sanjay Somji - Grand Son of Rao Saheb.
Oh...talking about Rao Saheb - We come to know about his magnitude only when Sarkar touches his feet (really) !
Finally Matters Complicate a bit (Matters i leave to you to discover) and suddenly Shankar is attacked and killed by a sniper.
Sarkar now takes up the matter in his own hands and goes away from his usual technique of controlled violence to that of kill all.
He finds out the missing links in the whole set-up which later reveals itself as one of the biggest conspracies ever with the mastermind being Rao Saheb Himself.
But Sarkar is the ultimate - he tracks down all his enemies and finishes of the obstaclec to the power plant project.
In this process Aishwarya ( A london Girl) too gets absorbed in the sarkar community and this scene marks the end of the grand sequel fully living upto the expectations.
The lighting is exquisite - though some may find it dark.
The Camera are angles are bizarre - but they only add to the theme of the movie.
The Sounds too are impeccable with realistic dialogue delivery - making it hard to comprehend on a DVD.
All in all the sequel more-or-less lives up to the hype it had created.
See ya later.
Please leave comments.

Of Exams and results

Lakhs of students give some sort of exams every year.

But why is it that only a few get through?

Why is it that still a handful few get so shocked by the results that they are inclined to take the extreme step?
I think the key lies is how you brace up for the exams and consequently the results.

When I give a test, i go back home and spend around half-an-hour in trying to analyse my performance. this way i get a fairly rough idea of how much can i score.
This technique may not be very accurate in subjective style questions but i can assure you a 95% accuracy which i have experienced on myself.
However in objective (read circling the bubbbles:), it is a most accurate tool. One just needs to bear in mind that he/she should tick mark the option in the question paper before he is about to circle it.

This has double benefits:
  1. You get a mirror copy of your response sheet therby allowing you to analyse it later.
  2. You don't commit the common mistake of your mind changing the answer while your pen moves from the rough paper to the bubble.
Do practice these simple techniques and tell me about them since i would love to improve upon them.

Printing Mistakes

Almost every student who has been preparing with the help of third party reference books must have sometime or the other stumbled upon mistakes.

The mistakes can be in the form of misspelt words/terms, incomplete questions, wrong option written in the answer key and so on.

I recently ordered and online test package of ten tests at the price of Rs.1200/- and to my dismay the first test itself contained more than 10 mistakes. We need to look into this matter and consider that an online community should be developed where people can report any kind of such mistakes they encounter.

Goodbye till the next post.
